About

2012 will be the 7th year of operation for the Oswego Kartway. We have grown by leaps and bounds since 2006 and are very proud of what we have accomplished as a group of racers and volunteers at our 1/12th mile clay facility. We do things a bit different at the bullring, as we offer no payout (most tracks charge more money for an entry fee and then payout a portion to a few racers in each class), it only cost's $15 to come out and race at the kartway and we race for a feature winners sticker, points towards the track championship and hopefully a great time!
Up until 2011 we had done almost all the improvements to the kartway on our own as a group, we have a membership program every year and we use that money towards the upgrades at the track. In 2011 the speedway was purchased by John and Eric Torrese and they have helped tremendously in the short time they have been involved.
Here is a little timeline of the life at the bullring.

2006 - Things started out pretty rough at the kartway, there were big dreams but not much success.
The track was very rough and the kart counts showed, as a good week was about 20 karts. This photo is from classic weekend in 2006, the karts did not even race that year. They held the mow-4-dough that season (lawnmower races).

2007 -
The current team of Jim Losurdo and Tim Kelly took over operation of the kartway and things started to change. The track surface got better and the kart counts improved a bit, but it still was pretty rustic at the track out back as it is known. We held our 1st ever dirt track classic that season on Labor day weekend and that has set the stage for our biggest event of the season. This photo was taken that weekend.

2008 - The track surface really came around in 2008, nice and smooth and very consistent week in and week out.
We added lights and a hot pit and staging area, these were the two biggest improvements we had made as a group of racers at the time. We added the "soft" wall system this season too and these projects really changed the appearance of the bullring. We also switched to Friday night racing (used to run on Thursdays nights) and the kart counts averaged around 45 this season.

2009 - Things continued to grow in 2009, we added to our pit area and started on a two year project with the help of Northern Concrete and a fantastic group of volunteers, we turned our gravel hot pit/staging area into a concrete masterpiece! We also acquired the old flag stand from the Brewerton Speedway and refurbished it for use at the kartway. 2009 was also the year we switched the layout of the track, made the backstretch the new front straightaway.
We also added onto our lighting system, added a caution light system, purchased a in-ground  scale system (recessed into the concrete pit area). Our kart count continued to grow as we to averaged close to 55 karts per week.

2010 - We really made the move to towards the state of art facility we are today with purchase of an MYLAPS computer scoring system, now all scoring is done with the help of a computer (we still use the good old pen and paper too). We built a new scoring building next to the flag stand, added a new section of billboards for our sponsors, once again added to the lighting system with new lights, increased our pit area and finished the concrete work for our hot pit/staging area. We averaged close to 60 karts a week and had 77 for the 4th annual Dirt Track Classic.

2011 - Last year brought more big changes to the Bullring. Thanks to the Torrese family, we have once again improved on the state of art facility we are. We have added a digital lap counter/timing system and 5 position scoreboard! The system is tied directly with our MYLAPS computer and instantly updates each lap as the karts cross the finish line.
We also added another new building to house our scale system,
purchased new track grading equipment, totally rebuilt the men's and women's bathrooms, added to the light system once again, expanded the pit area and added more lights to our caution light system.
We averaged between 65-70 karts per week and had a season high of 81 for the 5th annual Dirt Track Classic.

2012 - Hopefully we will continue to be a great place to race on Friday nights all summer long. We have classes for everyone from 5 years old until you can't get out of the kart on your own anymore. We are continuing with our tradition of racing for fun and to prove that there is a place for people to race without a trailer full of tires and the latest kart to do it.
We have the same group of volunteers coming back for our 6th year as a group. We can't thank them enough, as we could not do anything that we do without their help.
